DHAKA, July 1, 2021 (BSS) – Bangladesh will get 45 lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccines within the next two days, the health ministry sources said tonight.

The first consignment of 12 lakh Covid-19 Moderna vaccines is scheduled to arrive at 11.20 pm tomorrow (July 2) in Bangladesh while the second consignment of 13 lakh Moderna vaccines will arrive on July 3.

“A total of 25 lakh Covid-19 Moderna vaccines sent from the USA are scheduled to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on July 2 and 3,” Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque today confirmed the arrival of vaccines, an official release said.

In addition to the arrival of Moderna vaccines, Bangladesh will get another 20 lakh Sinopharm vaccines within the next two days.

Among the total Sinopharm vaccines, 11 lakh will arrive at 12.30 am tomorrow night while the remaining nine lakh will reach Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka the day after tomorrow, spokesperson of the health ministry told BSS.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque will receive 12 lakh Moderna and 11 lakh Sinopharm vaccines tomorrow night at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

On June 13, the second consignment of six lakh  Covid-19 Sinopharm vaccine shots arrived in Bangladesh.

On May 12, Bangladesh received a gift of five lakh Sinopharm doses from China, the DGHS sources said.

On June 29, the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) approved emergency use of the Covid-19 Moderna vaccine in the country.

The regulator has given Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) after all necessary examinations by the technical committee, a press release of DGDA said.

Bangladesh has so far approved eight COVID-19 vaccines to control the deadly disease.  These vaccines are Covid-19 vaccine Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, “CoronaVac”, manufactured by Sinovac Life Sciences Company Limited, Pfizer mRNA Covid-19 vaccine,  Covishield produced by Serum Institute of India; Sputnik V manufactured by Generium Joint Stock Company of Russia,  AstraZeneca manufactured by Sweden and Sinopharm produced by Beijing Institute of Biological Products Co Ltd of China.
