DHAKA, June 26, 2021 (BSS) –The Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) Day will be observed tomorrow in the country to recognize the contribution of these industries in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Foundation has taken several programs marking MSMEs Day.
On the eve of the day, President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today issued separate messages conveying greetings to SME entrepreneurs who are dedicated to economic development of the country.
In a message, the President said the United Nations has been observing MSMEs Day since 2017, recognizing the importance of micro, small and medium enterprises in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
He laid emphasis on boosting of the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) sector for accelerating economic progress in the country.
The head of the state added that the SME sector is keeping a remarkable contribution to employment generation, poverty reduction, and removal of social inequality.
In Bangladesh, the SME sector has been contributing to the achievement of SDGs and Vision 2041, he added.
The Prime Minister, in her message, said that the labor-intensive and small-capital SME industry is playing a vital role in the country for maintaining a prosperous and sustainable economy.
She thought that the industrialization of the country, especially the development of the SME sector, has created more jobs and made the economy more vibrant.
Due to the business-friendly policy of the present government, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) have flourished in different parts of the country, she said, adding that cluster-based industrial development has created employment opportunities in remote areas also.
At the same time, the SME sector is playing a leading role in transforming the youth into skilled manpower and as a result, they are being employed in the labor market, she continued.
She added that in order to build the foundation of a prosperous and sustainable economy, it is necessary to create labor-intensive and low-capital SME-entrepreneurs in the country.
She said that the government is committed to creating a suitable environment for SME entrepreneurs so that they could come forward and expand trade and commerce.
She hoped that with the help of the SME sector and young-skilled manpower, the dream of building ‘Sonar Bangla’ of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the greatest Bengali nation of all time, will be fulfilled.
Both the president and the premier wished all the success of the day.
