Global Net Report : The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested six members of an international smuggling ring with snake venom worth Tk 75 crore in a raid in Dhaka’s Dakshin Khan police station area. According to the RAB, 8 kg 98 g (including the jar) of snake venom was found in the glass jar from the arrested persons. Its estimated value is 75 crore rupees.
The arrested persons are Md. Masud Rana (24), Md. Chafir Uddin Shanu (50), Md. Tamjidul Islam alias Monir (34), Md. Alamgir Hossain (26), Firoza Begum (58) and Asma Begum (42).
According to RAB, on the basis of secret information, a team of RAB-2 came to know on Thursday that some members of the international smuggling ring were staying in Gulbar Munshi Sarani, Ward No. 50 under Dakshin Khan Police Station with a large quantity of snake venom. On the basis of this news, the RAB team conducted an operation there yesterday afternoon. Sensing the presence of the RAB, they tried to run away. At that time RAB arrested them.
The bags containing the arrested persons were searched and snake venom CDs and manual books on snake venom were recovered. The RAB knows that there is a huge demand for snake venom among certain groups. In order to make more profit, snake venom is collected and smuggled from different parts of the world. The arrested accused are active members of the international snake venom smuggling ring.
