Global Net Desk:The newly constructed Akhaura-Agartala dual gauge railway will be inaugurated on November 1, creating new trade potentials between Bangladesh and India.

The experimental train started its journey with empty container from Gangasagar railway station of Akhaura upazila of Brahmanbaria to Nishintpur station in India and return successfully from India today.

Earlier, on September 14, the first trial run train started its journey from Akhaura in Brahmanbaria to Nishintpur station in India successfully completed the journey.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi are expected to inaugurate the Akhaura-Agartala railway line virtually on November 1, project director of the Bangladesh section of the Akhaura-Agartala dual gauge railway, Abu Zafar Mia said.

“Now, the railway is ready for inauguration. The opening of the railway will expand trade between India and Bangladesh,” he added.

After the inauguration, first cargo trains and later passenger trains will play between the two countries.

The Bangladesh section of the Akhaura-Agartala dual gauge railway is 6.78 kilometers while the total length is 12.24 kilometers, Abu Zafar Mia added.
