Global Net Report: Shahidul Islam Sagor, a young generation tourism leader, was born in the traditional Sheikh family of Nasratpur village in Dhunat upazila of Bogura district. Although Shahidul Islam Sagor is better known as Sagor. Sagor is the eldest of 3 brothers and sisters. The leader of the peasant movement grew up in the water and mud of the rural environment holding the hand of his father during his childhood and adolescence. After finishing secondary from family school Jaher Ali High School and higher secondary from Haji Wahed Maryam Degree College, he moved to Panchabati in Narayanganj in 1996. After studying at the government Tolaram College in Narayanganj for some time, he started his career in Banani, Dhaka. After that he got involved in progressive social movement. In 1999, Sagor was one of the founders of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani Memorial Library in Karail.
At first he was working in SS Architect, a contractor company of engineer Sajal Roy Chowdhury, but later he started his own business by setting up a company called Rang Tuli. But in 2012 he suddenly started a travel agency and got involved in manpower export. In the same year, Mr. Abdullah Harun joined the tourism industry with his inspiration. His organization is called Bogra Tours and Travels. Inbound and domestic tours are his hobbies. In 2015, he suddenly became involved in regional research on “tourism and archeology.” On 15 November 2015, he formed the “Bogra Tourist Club” and published a list of 114 tourist spots in Bogra district on behalf of the club after promoting, expanding and researching the tourism industry for 60 weeks.
At present Shahidul Islam Sagar is presiding over Bogra Tourist Club. At that time, he went with the youth of Bogra to build various social organizations including Bogra Adventure Club, Bogra Cyclist Club, Pundra Theater, Bogra Youth Power; Excluding all kinds of business and trade, one has to stay in Bogra for 1 year and 4 months. And that’s why his business is at a loss.
Then in 2017 he established the tourism based Bengali newspaper “The Tourism Voyage” and started business journalism as well as business. He is the editor of The Tourism Voyage. The associations that are supposed to be vocal about the current state of the tourism industry in Bangladesh, when they left them out, became embroiled in various conflicts among themselves to sit in the chair. Just then, in 2019, he formed the “Bangladesh Tourism Explorers Association (BTEA)” with young tourism businessmen, researchers, journalists and tourism professionals. He is currently the Chairman of BTEA. Today, BTEA is widely acclaimed for its dynamic activities.
At a time when tourism professionals were frustrated by the Corona epidemic in 2020, they formed a “joint tourism alliance” with a number of national and regional organizations to build a movement to demand six points. Sagar is acting as its coordinator.
One of the achievements of the movement of combined tourism alliance is to involve the tourism industry in cooperatives and to include it in the circular of Bangladesh Bank as the fifth priority sector in SMEs. At the request of all, when the country’s tourist guides were neglected, the Bangladesh Tourist Guides Association (BTGA) was formed. Which continues to work for the welfare of the guides. This man, who lives a very simple life, is also hailed by some as a tourism guru.
When young tour operators lost their offices during the Corona epidemic, Shahidul Islam Sagar-owned company, the e-tourism consortium, was open to the public. He is also an advisor to the Bangladesh Tourism Research Institute, director of the Tourism Developers Association of Bangladesh (TDAB), Legal Affairs, General Member of the Tour Operators Association of Bangladesh (TUAB), Association of Bangladesh (Association) Joined as General Member.
