
Global Net Report: Gobindaganj Thana police in a drive recovered a black stone idol of Hindu god Vishnu, weighing 83 kg from the house of one Amirul Islam in Gobindaganj Upazila of the district around 2 pm today.
Police said the idol was found by a group of laborers while re-excavating a pond in the village. After the idol was recovered, the guard of the pond named Bhola, son of Shoilen Chandra, hid the idol under the earth, adjacent to the house of Amirul Islam of the village.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of police of Boiragirhat police outpost led by its in-charge assistant sub-inspector Milon Chatterjee conducted the drive at the house of Amirul Islam and recovered the idol from under the earth hidden at the western side of the house.
Officer-in-charge of Gobindaganj thana AKM Mehedi Hasan confirmed the matter.
The estimated cost of the idol is around Taka 5 crore, he added.
After permission from the court, the idol would be kept at Bogura Mahasthangarh museum soon, he said.
