Global Net Report : Two people have been detained in connection with the attack on Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wahida Khanam in Dinajpur.
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) detained Asadul and Jahangir early today, suspecting their involvement in the attack, said Amirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Ghoraghat Police Station.
Police Station said, RAB detained Asadul and Jahangir Friday late night, suspecting their involvement in the attack. Asadul from Hakimpur Upazila and Jahangir from Ghoraghat Upazila are detained. The detainees were taken to the office of Rab-13 in Rangpur city for interrogation, said Amirul Islam.
Note that, UNO Wahida Khanom and her father were seriously injured in an attack by unidentified assailants at her official residence early Thursday. Omar Ali father of UNO Wahida Khanom, tried to save her from attacked, but he couldn’t save her. The incident came to light around 10 am when Omar informed the local people about it. Dinajpur, who suffered serious injuries in an attack by miscreants, was airlifted from Rangpur to Dhaka by a Bangladesh Air Force MI-171SH helicopter on Thursday.
She is in critical condition due to head injury, said doctors at the National Institute of Neuroscience and Hospital (NINH) in Dhaka.
Last night, Wahida’s brother-in-law filed a case with Ghoraghat Police Station against some unidentified miscreants in connection with the attack, OC Amirul further said.
Divisional commissioner of Rangpur has formed a three-member probe committee to investigate into the gruesome attack.
Ghoraghat UNO Wahida Khanam’s husband is working as Pirganj UNO in Rangpur district. Her father Omar Ali lived with Wahida Khanam.
Receiving the news, Dinajpur Deputy Commissioner Mahmudul Alam and Superintendent of Police Anwar Hossain and other senior police officials went to the spot friday early in the morning.
Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Secretaries to the Prime Minister’s Office, Local Government Department, Public Administration, Health Ministry and Director General of the Directorate General of Health Service and Director of the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospitals were also present.
