
Global Net Report : The trial of 10 adult accused, including his wife Ayesha Siddiqui, in the Rifat Sharif murder case ended on September 16. Barguna District and Sessions Judge Md. Ashaduzzaman set September 30 (today) as the date for announcing the verdict in the case.
Six people, including his wife Ayesha Siddique alias Minni, have been sentenced to death in the notorious Rifat Sharif murder case in Barguna. The other four accused in the case have been acquitted. Judge Mohammad Ashaduzzaman of the Barguna District and Sessions Judge’s Court pronounced the verdict on Wednesday.
The other five convicts are Rakibul Hasan Rifat Faraji (23), Al Qayyum alias Rabbi Akon (21), Mohaiminul Islam alias Sifat (19), Rezwan Ali Khan alias Tiktak Hridoy (22) and Md. Hasan (19). And Rafiul Islam was acquitted, said. Sagar, Kamrul Islam Simon and Md. Musa. Musa is a fugitive.
Security has been beefed up at Adalatpara since the morning following the verdict. Judge Md Ashaduzzaman came to the court building around 7 am today for the security of the members of the Detective Branch (DB) of the district police. Candidates and lawyers were searched and allowed to enter the court building. Police have been keeping a close watch on various important places in Barguna since Tuesday night following the verdict. Police security posts have been set up at important corners of the city. District Detective Police (DB) patrols have been intensified.
Police checkpoints have been set up at four places around the verdict. The places are Barguna Women’s College, Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Hospital Road and Circuit House Road. Police personnel on duty at the check post are searching suspicious vehicles as well as monitoring the movement of the public.
On June 26 last year, terrorists hacked Rifat Sharif in front of Barguna Government College in front of his wife Ayesha and seriously injured her. He was taken to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barisal and died that afternoon. The next day, on June 26, Rifat’s father Abdul Halim Sharif filed a murder case with the Barguna police station, naming 12 people. Ayesha was made the main witness in this case. Later, he was named as the 8th accused in the charge sheet. On January 1, the Barguna District and Sessions Judge’s Court framed charges against 10 adult accused in the Rifat murder case.
