Global Net Report : On the occasion of the centenary of the University of Dhaka (DU) and the golden jubilee of independence, the government has given a special allocation of Tk 20 crore to the university for basic and practical research. University Vice-Chancellor Mr. Akhtaruzzaman thanked the government for this allocation.
A meeting of the university authorities held through the online platform Zoom on Tuesday, said the Vice-Chancellor Mr. Akhtaruzzaman. The meeting was attended by University Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Muhammad Samad, Vice-Chancellor (Education) ASM Maqsood Kamal, Deans of the faculties, Chairmen of the Departments, Directors of the Institute-Research Centers and Bureaus.
After the meeting, ASM Maqsood Kamal, vice-chancellor (education) and former president of the Dhaka University Teachers Association said, “We demanded a special allocation for research from the government to be in charge of the teachers’ association.”
Maqsood Kamal also said the meeting also discussed whether the university would be reopened soon in the Kovid-19 situation. Considering other issues starting from corona infection, no decision has been taken yet. In this regard, the Vice-Chancellor Mr. Akhtaruzzaman said, “The decision will be taken after accepting the reality and thinking in a scientific way.”
A press release issued by the Public Relations Department at the end of the university administration meeting said that in the light of the oral examination policy to finalize the results of the written, practical and other examinations of students of different years of the university who failed the oral examination. It was decided to take through the online platform. At the same time, arrangements should be made so that no student is deprived of the benefits of these examination activities. Department-Institute and Faculty-based survey reports will be prepared on students taking unfinished written and practical exams physically on campus. The matter will be coordinated by the concerned deans and directors. A decision will be taken later.
Apart from this meeting of the Dhaka University administration, the concerned Deans have been requested to formulate a strategy paper for the students of the Faculty Medical College and the Faculty of Postgraduate Medicine and Research of the University to take the examinations as soon as possible.
