DHAKA, Sept 30, 2012:  Indian High Commission here today hosted a get-together to bid farewell to 65 ICCR scholarship awardees out of nearly 300 selected scholars across Bangladesh at its Chancery premises.

Out of nearly 300 students selected across Bangladesh for ICCR scholarship, a batch of 2021-22, for higher studies in prestigious educational institutions in India, including 170 students from Dhaka, 32 from Chittagong, 22 from Rajshahi, 20 from Sylhet 20, and 16 from Khulna.

Engineering courses attracted the maximum numbers, followed by Sciences, Social Sciences, and Dance and Culture. Among those that qualified, around 74% were men, and, 26% women an Indian High Commission press release said here today.

These students coming from varied backgrounds will now study at premier educational institutes in different regions of India.

These young talented minds, after their successful academic pursuits, would go on to become leaders in Bangladesh’s progress in all fields, especially culture, economics, science, and technology.

Indian High Commissioner Vikram K. Doraiswami interacted with the ICCR awardees during the event.

The High Commissioner also narrated anecdotes from his professional experience to encourage students to adapt to their new life in a familiar, yet foreign country.

ICCR Alumni from different walks of life in Bangladesh, present on the occasion, shared their experiences of studying in India and offered their guidance, advice, and good wishes to the younger generation of scholars.

ICCR is a flagship program of the government of India for meritorious Bangladeshi nationals to pursue various courses in India at Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Ph.D. levels.

Over the years, more than 4,000 Bangladeshi nationals have availed these scholarships to study different institutes including the National Institutes of Technology (NIT), Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT), Delhi University, JNU, National Law School, Rabindra Bharati University.
