Global Net Report : After receiving the highest number of votes, Bangladesh has been elected as a member of the Executive Board of UNDP, UNFPA and UNOPS.

The election was held yesterday at the UN Headquarters in New York where 54-members of Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) voted to elect members to eight of its subsidiary bodies.

According to a statement from the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations, Bangladesh received 53 out of 54 votes in the election. One member abstained from voting.

Bangladesh will be a member of this executive board for the period 2021-23. The term of office will start from January 1.

According to the statement, the victory is a testament to the strong legacy, trust and confidence that Bangladesh has gained due to the relentless progress of Bangladesh in socio-economic development under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and working closely with UN agencies and its executive boards.

Bangladesh is currently a member of the Executive Board of UNICEF and UN Women. Rabab Fatima, Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, is currently chairing the UNICEF Executive Board.
