Dhaka 12 June 2021,  The speakers demanded the restructuring of the troubled tourism sector in Corona and the special allocation in the budget for the protection of workers and the formation of a separate ministry for tourism.

Bangladesh Tourism and Hotel Workers-Employees Federation arranged a program at National Press Club in the capital today morning. Budget allocation for protection of food, accommodation, employment, and social security of workers employed in 119 types of tourism in 12 sub-sectors of tourism including tourism accommodation, hotel-restaurant, tourism transport. , Establishment of Labor Courts-Labor Directors-Labor Inspectors’ Offices in Tourism Districts, Determination of Wage Structure for Tourism Sector Workers-Employees, Corona Vaccination, Preference for Workers-Employed Workers in Production, Stopping Foreign or Kinship in Employment and Implementation of Hotel-Restaurant Act 2014, Bangladesh Tourism and Hotels Workers-Employees Federation (BTHWEF) has demanded the creation of a special fund for the protection of industry and workers in disasters and leisure security for workers, including tourism experts in all state infrastructure construction plans. Press Club’s Tofazzal Hossain Manik Mia Auditorium (VIP Lounge) “Budget Thoughts: What to do to protect the workers and employees of the disrupted tourism sector and the tourism industry ”- a discussion meeting was held.

Rajekuzzaman Ratan, President of the Socialist Workers Front, addressed the discussion meeting chaired by Md. Rashedur Rahman, Convener of the Central Committee of Bangladesh Tourism and Hotels Workers-Employees Federation and conducted by Member Secretary Ahsan Habib Bulbul. President of Bangladesh Tourism Foundation Mokhlesur Rahman, General Secretary of Bangladesh Shipping Workers Federation Chowdhury Ashiqul Alam, General Secretary of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation Osman Ali, Associate Professor of Tourism and Hospitality Department of Dhaka University,  Santosh Kumar Dev, Chairman of Bangladesh Tourism Explorers Association Shahidul Islam Sagar, Joint Convener of the organization Shahidul Islam, Mohiuddin Rimel, Sharif Ahmed, Farhad Hossain, Shamim Ahmed.  Khalekuzzaman Lipon  Joint Convener of the organization gave the welcome speech. Among the organization’s central leaders are Kishore Raihan, vice-president of Bangladesh Tourism Foundation, Manjurul Haque, former president of Sonargaon Hotel Employees Union, Kazi Masudur Rahman Rocky manager of Krinchchura Picnic Spot, Lion Mithu Dhar Chowdhury, editor & publisher of The Global Net.

The leaders said the demands raised by the organization were justified and logical, adding that the lion’s share of the money earned by the industries for which the government is giving incentives is spent on importing raw materials but 100 percent of foreign exchange earned through tourism is added to national funds. Therefore, through the planned steps of the government, tourism can be the main source of foreign exchange for Bangladesh and the employment of educated and skilled workers. Therefore, the leaders hoped that the government would amend the budget and allocate necessary funds for the development of tourism and the protection of skilled workers in the tourism profession.
