Global Net Report: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Benazir Ahmed today said all people, who will be found responsible for Hefazat-e-Islam’s mayhem carried out in the district recently, have to face music.

“All people whose names will come in the investigation will be arrested,” he told a press briefing at Circuit House here after visiting the spots where Hefazat Islam carried out a massive violence on March 26 and 27.

Noting that such destructive incidents take place in some specific districts, Benazir said the law enforcement agencies will do everything possible to establish the rule of law and good governance.

There are 574 madarasas in the district of 32 lakh population where innocent students are studying, he said, adding but they (Hefazat-e-Islam) repeatedly use them (students) for making the country instable.

Referring to the Hefazat Islam leaders’ activities out of religious matters, the IGP said they are now carrying out political activities instead of practicing spiritual ones.

As Bangladesh has graduated to the developing country, he said, “Now our target is to ensure political stability and economic empowerment”.

Expressing resentment over destruction of state establishments by Hefajat-e-Islam in various places including Brahmanbaria and Hathazari, the police chief said, “We have no word to express hatred towards them”.

He said land offices in Brahmanbaria and Hathazari have been set on fire. “Thousands of people will suffer for the next 50years as it is uncertain whether this record system can be restored by this time,” Benazir added.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Director General Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, Chief of Special Branch of police Monirul Islam, Brahmanbaria Deputy Commissioner Hayat-Ud-Dawllahla Khan, and Superintendent of Police Mohammad Anisur Rahman were present at the briefing, among others.

Earlier, the police chief visited the Brahmanbaria Press Club and Sur Samrat Alauddin Khan Sangitangan and distributed cheques of Taka 5 lakh among each of them as the two institutions were vandalized during the Hefajat mayhem.
